DIR 101 Courses

The DIR 101 course is the introduction to the DIR model and Floortime.  It is a 12-hour course taught both live online (via Zoom) and onsite throughout the world. Please click on the links below to view current offerings in both formats.

Course Fees

Live Online DIR 101: 

Professionals: $ 199 USD, plus CE/Certificate of Attendance fee of $20 if requested. No additional fees for Certificates of Completion (hours of attendance are not listed).

Parents/Caregivers/Self-Advocates/Students: $79 (No CE credits provided).

Course Description

This is an introductory course that reviews the theoretical framework, scientific evidence, and scope of application of the model promoting functional emotional developmental capacities, reflective thinking, and overall mental health for all children and adults, including those with developmental disabilities. 

Learning Objectives

1. Students successfully completing this course will demonstrate the ability to identify at least three common features of autism and other challenges of relating and communicating.

2. Students successfully completing this course will demonstrate the ability to identify at least four key features of relationship-based approaches.

3. Students successfully completing this course will demonstrate the ability to describe all 6 Functional Emotional Developmental Capacities (FEDCs) in the DIR® model and potential challenges that children face at each capacity.

4. Students successfully completing this course will demonstrate the ability to describe at least three characteristics of how individual differences (the "I" in DIR®), including health, sensory processing, and regulatory challenges, can impact a child's development.

5. Students successfully completing this course will demonstrate the ability to identify at least three key principles and basic strategies of Floortime.

6. Students successfully completing this course will demonstrate the ability to describe at least three characteristics of relationship and family in the DIR® model.

7. Students successfully completing this course will demonstrate the ability to describe the essential role of affect as it is related to the D, the I, and the R.

Basic Requirements, Evaluation of Knowledge, and Certificate Obtained 

Course Interaction: This live webinar is fully interactive. Attendees may ask and answer questions throughout the presentation and participate in instructor-led discussions. 

• Certificate of Attendance (by request) and/or Completion will be emailed to participants at the email address used at registration within 30 days of course completion. To request accommodations, please contact certificates@icdl.com.

• Attendance is required to complete this course. Students in live online courses must have a device (PC, Mac, Tablet, Smartphone) with a microphone. ICDL provides the software for the course.

Continued Education Information

Please check each individual course offering for available professional continuing education credits.  Each offering can vary.  We have different continuing education pages and approvals for different courses and conferences.   You must check each individual offering.  

ICDL provides continuing education (CE) credits for certain professions. These CE credits are only available for courses ICDL offers directly. Available continuing education varies by course offering. Please check the specific course offering for continuing education information. Currently, many of ICDL's courses offer professional continuing education credits for:

In addition to courses offered by ICDL, our course catalog will also display courses licensed by ICDL that use the ICDL curriculum and are fully approved by ICDL to be official DIRFloortime® courses. However, ICDL does not provide CE credits for these courses. These are all clearly marked.  Please contact the provider of any ICDL licensed courses to inquire about CE credits.
