2024 ICDL International DIR® Conference
Professional Continuing Education Information
Conference Description
This two day conference is focused on using a Developmental Individual-differences and Relationship-based (DIR) model to promote development and learning for everyone. Promoting development is not about simply training or teaching skills, it is a process of helping people grow and develop from the inside out. By implementing DIRFloortime, professionals and caregivers alike can fully engage in promoting development and increasing their capacity of self-regulation, engagement, communication, problem solving, thinking and reasoning.
Through lectures, case studies, research reviews, and discussions, participants will have the opportunity to deepen their understanding of DIRFloortime and how to effectively promote development in individuals with autism and other developmental differences.

Learning Objectives
Demonstrate how a developmental, individual-difference, and relationship-based approach is utilized in school, in therapy, and at home to promote healthy development and learning.
Explain how expressive arts, music, and movement can support development, autonomy, and regulation.
Identify the needs and feelings of parents and families following an ASD diagnosis in order to list ways professionals can support caregivers.
Explore ways in which DIR/Floortime principles are consistent with trauma-informed principles in Neurodiversity-informed practice.
Recognize ways that DIRFloortime supports a range of Functional Emotional Developmental Capacities across contexts.
Describe at least 2 ways in which an autistic person’s individual differences can be their strengths, consistent with a strengths-based approach.
List at least 3 evidence-based ways that playful interactions support development within the DIRFloortime® model.
