2020 NYC DIR® Conference

Professional Continuing Education Information

The Heart of Learning:

Using Relationships to Create Safe Learning Environments

Conference Description

Creating safe environments through meaningful relationships supports developmental growth and promotes learning. During this one-day conference, participants will understand how DIRFloortime® can be used across the disciplinary domains with students of all ages. Breakout sessions will address a range of themes demonstrating how feeling safe and connected to peers and adults in the learning environment impacts the development of relationships and success in school. By creating a safe environment, students are able to build a strong foundation necessary for learning and development. Presenters from the Rebecca School, self-advocates, and the ICDL community will show how following a student’s passion can both build strong relationships and accomplish discipline-specific goals. This conference is open to self-advocates, professionals, and parents.

All participants that sign in and out and attend the full day will receive a Certificate of Attendance documenting hours of attendance. Please note that continuing education credit is only provided for direct seat time.

The course content is focused on a specific product or service (DIRFloortime®) and there will be no mention of other products or services. ICDL does not receive any commercial support for this conference.

Counselors

ICDL has been approved by NBCC as an Approved Continuing Education Provider, ACEP No. 6733. ICDL is solely responsible for all aspects of the programs. DIR 101, 201, 202, 203, and 204 are all available for NBCC continuing education credits. The number of CEUs for NBCC are based on the number of "seat" hours for the course. In other words, the number of actual instruction hours. For example, DIR 101 is 12 and DIR 201, 202, and 203 are all 28.

Social Workers

NEW YORK STATE SOCIAL WORKERS:

Interdisciplinary Council on Developmental and Learning Disorders, Inc., SW CPE is recognized by the New York State Education Department's State Board for Social Work as an approved provider of continuing education for licensed social workers #0371.

Art Therapists

According to the ATR-BC Recertification Standards, ICDL training programs that are approved by one of the other national continuing education boards listed on this page, may be eligible for Art Therapy continuing education credit. These standards state, "CECs will be accepted for all courses or events that fit in the ATCB Eligible Content Areas and that are presented or approved by any of the following art therapy, mental health, or behavioral sciences entities: state licensing authority, national professional organization, or national credentialing body for continuing education credit." It is the responsibility of each participant to determine if an ICDL program qualifies or not. ICDL is not an approved ATR-BC continuing education provider and as such can not award ATR-BC continuing education credits directly. However, we are approved by organizations like NBCC which may meet the above quoted standard.

Educators

In most cases, this conference can be used for teacher continuing education. ICDL will provide a certificate of attendance to document your hours of attendance. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact us at ceu@icdl.com. Thank you.
