The DIR® Institute of ICDL provides educational programs to professionals of all disciplines, parents and Floortime practitioners to utilize the DIR® model. A distinguished interdisciplinary faculty promotes the development of clinical and educational competencies through courses, workshops, and intensive programs leading to a DIR® Certificate.The DIR® Institute programs are offered across the nation and internationally including Central and South America, Europe, Israel, Australia and Hong Kong.

In 1999 we started the DIR® Institute Certificate Program beginning with “Training the trainers”, who are now our distinguished interdisciplinary faculty teaching DIR® across the country and around the world, reaching thousands of parents and professionals, creating innovative clinical and school programs, and teaching at Universities. Several hundred clinicians and educators, and up to 50 faculty now participate in this program annually.

ICDL offers the only DIR®/FT ™ registered trademark educational programs available.  The DIR® Institute is pleased to announce three educational programs for 2007:

Please note we will not offer the DIR®/Floortime™ Practitioner Program at Asilomar in 2007 because of space limitations.  We plan to continue this program in 2008 along with the new DIR® Parent Advocacy Program.

At the Eighth Annual DIR® Institute you will:

  • Be immersed in DIR® theory and practice to develop the skills needed to provide DIR® services in your workplace.
  • Interact with a faculty of nationally known DIR® experts across disciplines as you discuss your work.
  • Attend model case presentations, panel programs and specific courses tailored to each program.  Also learn to use the new ICDL Diagnostic Classification model (DMIC).
  • Get in-depth small group training to learn and master the principles and practice of DIR®/FT™ assessment and intervention.
  • Meet colleagues from across the country and your community including educators and special educators, occupational, physical and speech and language therapists, creative art therapists, various mental health practitioners, including social workers  psychologists, psychiatrists, and pediatricians. Also meet International participants.
  • Special Program for Program DIR®ectors and Administrators 

 

General Eligibility:

Candidates must be familiar with the DIR® Framework, Developmental and Sensory Profiles, Relationship/Caregiver Patterns, and comprehensive intervention approaches. This basic level can be obtained through completion of introductory DIR® courses in assessment and treatment such as the Spring Training Course, ICDL Pre-conference Workshops, and other Courses and Study Groups offered by approved DIR® Faculty, or related courses.Since this is our first Institute on the West Coast we will also accept a limited number of eligible participants who complete a self-study course. We may offer a 2 day program to discuss the implementation of model early intervention, school based education and special education programs. Contact swieder@icdl.com with letter of interest and description of current program.

Application Process

Download applications , complete and submit by e-mail to DIRInstitute@icdl.com as soon as possible. Applications will be accepted as long as spaces within your discipline and program choice are available.   Spaces are limited.  Note early bird savings.

DIR® INSTITUTE 2007

HOUSING INFORMATION

ASILOMAR CONFERENCE GROUNDS

PACIFIC GROVE, CA

 

Please Note:  Each candidate who submits their DIR® INSTITUTE  APPLICATION to attend the Institute will receive an ASILOMAR HOUSING REGISTRATION form AFTER their acceptance.

PLEASE DO NOT TRY TO REGISTER AT ASILOMAR UNTIL YOU HAVE RECEIVED NOTICE YOU HAVE BEEN ACCEPTED. 

 

1.   Once you have been accepted you can then apply for housing directly with Asilomar using the form that will be provided to you. You must have ths form in order to register at Asilomar.

2.   Housing will be on a first come, first serve basis – and space is limited!  (So please submit your DIR® Institute Application SOON!) 

3.   May 2, 2007 will be the final deadline for making room reservations, assuming space is still available. 

 

Rooms:

Asilomar offers a lovely assortment of rooms and options, set across the conference grounds.  All rooms have are nicely appointed, similar to those you’d find in a hotel, in newer one and two-story buildings.

  • All rooms include a private bathroom, a desk and sitting area.
  • Many have balconies or patios and picture windows overlooking the grounds, forest, dunes and water views of the bay. 
  • All have daily maid service. 

 

Rates include:

  • 3-meals per day, served cafeteria style at Crocker Dining Hall.
  • (Regular and vegetarian foods available at each meal.  Strictly
  • kosher food can be ordered for additional fee.)
  • Use of all recreational facilities, swimming pool, etc
  • Rates include all applicable taxes.
  • Rates indicated are per person, not per room.
  • One form must be filled out per person.
  • Housing Form fees reflect the minimum 5-night stay.
  • Guest rooms are assigned on first come, first served basis

 

Room Rates:

Asilomar Conference Center’s flexible housing options offer real savings for those willing to “double up.” 

  • “Standard Double” is a Room with 2 double beds.  If two people share the room, the rate is: $ 109.12 per night, per person, or  $ 563.60 total per person for 5 nights.
  • “Standard Triple/Quad” is a larger Standard Room with 3-4 single/double beds, suitable for a small group of three to four, interested in saving money.  The rate is:  $ 84.09 per person, per night, or  $438.45 total per person for 5 nights.
  • If you’d prefer a room to yourself (a “Single Standard”) the rate is:  $ 179.79 per night, or $ 916.95 total for 5 nights.  Since single rooms are very limited for special needs, please apply to us for clearance before registering at Asilomar by sending an e-mail request following your acceptance.

(*If you’d like Asilomar to “find a roommate for you” - from our group - you will be able to request that on your Housing Form.)

 

Day Participants:

The DIR® INSTITUTE will be providing an option for Day Participants (those interested in attending without staying at Asilomar), ONLY when all applications are in and housing has been filled up. 

A Day Participant will need to fill out the DIR® INSTITUTE APPLICATION and submit as instructed by the deadline indicated. Please add a note if you are interested in Day Participation only. 

All Day Participants will be expected to attend for all 5 days and evenings of the institute and pay the regular DIR® INSTITUTE fees.

In addition, Asilomar charges Day Participants $  8.75 per day. Meal Tickets for Day Participants can be purchased at the Front Desk in Phoebe Hearst Social Hall at the following rates: 

  • Breakfast: $ 7.45
  • Lunch: $ 9.25
  • Dinner: $ 15.60

 

Potential Day Participants:  Please note that parking at Asilomar Is limited, and restrained to specific lots, not necessarily adjacent to meeting facilities.  Day participants should consider car-pooling with colleagues.  Allow extra time to park and walk to your meeting room destination if you are arriving by car.   There is some with street front parking available outside the facility if necessary.

 

MORE INFORMATION ON ACCOMODATIONS, ACTIVITIES AND LOGISTICS WILL BE INCLUDED WITH YOUR ACCEPTANCE.

Next Steps

  • Review and send applications to DIRInstitute@Icdl.com.   Contact Dr. Wieder if you have any questions ( swieder@icdl.com).  Questions can be best answered after you send in your application so relevant information can be quickly reviewed.  There is no application fee.
  • Complete Application- include copies of curriculum vita, license, letters of recommendation and photo. Applications (e-mail and hard copy) are accepted as long as space is available.  Only complete applications will be considered.  Please apply as soon as possible as spaces are limited. Each application will be carefully reviewed by the  DIR® Faculty Committee which will have final determination.
  • Once accepted, your place will be held for one month or May 1, 2007, (whichever comes first).  You will be given instructions for payment with your notification. Once accepted, you will be given the information to register for housing at Asilomar.  Day participants cannot be accepted until our reserved spaces at Asilomar are filled. 
  • March 1, 2006 Early Bird Deadline. 
  • May 1, 2006  Final Payment Due to ICDL
  • Pre-Institute Phone Consultations during April, May, and June for registered participants
  • July 8, 2007 - Join us for an exciting workshop.  We start at 4pm on Sunday, July 8 and end at noon on Friday, July 13 (lunch follows).

Limited stipends are available by arrangement.
