Leave of Absence Policy

The ICDL Graduate School authorizes students to take up to a 6 month leave of absence (ideally one trimester). Students must request a leave of absence in writing at least 15 days before they begin their leave, unless extenuating circumstances do not allow advanced notice. Tuition will not be charged during the leave of absence period.

Steps to take a Leave of Absence:

1. Discuss your situation with your faculty advisor.

2. Submit a written request for a leave of absence to Cecilia Breinbauer, Barbara Kalmanson, and your Faculty Advisor. Include the reasoning and dates of your requested leave.

3. Upon approval of your leave of absence, notify Joan McVey and Annie Briggs.

4. Approximately one month before your leave ends, plan which courses you will take in the trimester when you will resume coursework.

5. If you need an extension beyond your approved leave of absence period, discuss the situation with your faculty advisor, and request the extension in writing, as in step 2 above. Requests for additional extensions of leave of absence will be reviewed carefully and only granted in extreme circumstances for a maximum of one more trimester. Students on leave of absence for more than 12 months will be asked to withdraw from the program.

6.  Students who withdraw from the program can reapply if they want to be reinstated within 3 years of having left the program.  A  non-refundable readmission fee of $100 will be charged and students will need to sign a new enrollment agreement with the tuition fee corresponding to the reinstated year.
