If the student withdraws from the course with permission from the faculty member and intends to complete the course with that faculty member at a later time, the grade is “I” (Incomplete). At the option of the instructor, the symbol “I” may be recorded if a student, for reasons beyond the student's control, is unable to complete the work of the course, and if the instructor is informed of, and approves, such reasons before the date when grades must be reported. The “I” grade requires an agreed upon expiration date (between instructor and student). If the letter grade is not submitted to replace the “I” by the expiration date, a grade of “W" (withdrawal) will be posted.
Steps to take an Incomplete:
1. Notify the faculty member teaching the course and your advisor of your intention and reasons for taking an incomplete.
2. Notify Cecilia Breinbauer and Barbara Kalmanson.
3. Work out a plan for completion of the course with the instructor, including due dates for submitting incomplete work. The due date must come before the close of the next trimester.
4. Complete all course work and submit your work to the instructor before the due date.
5. Report completion of the course to your advisor, Cecilia Breinbauer and Barbara Kalmanson.
6. If there are complicating circumstances requiring special consideration, speak with your advisor and contact Barbara Kalmanson, Academic Dean.
Requests for additional extensions to complete pending assignments will be reviewed carefully and only granted in extreme circumstances, for a maximum of one more trimester. If coursework is unfinished, Incomplete grades will be automatically converted to "W" (withdrawal) on the student's academic transcript two trimesters after the course was taken.
