2009 DIR® Institute Educational Programs

We are pleased to announce the

DIR® Summer Institute is returning to the

ASILOMAR Conference Grounds in California

to celebrate the …

10th Anniversary of the DIR® Institute

July 8 – 12, 2009

Featuring special programs and guest speakers

Join us at the historic Asilomar Conference Grounds in beautiful Pacific Grove, CA, which front the Monterey Bay, offering sandy beaches, cool fresh sea air, lush wooded forests, walking trails, sand dunes and wildlife.   Historic and contemporary meeting rooms provide a relaxed setting for presentation and discussion.  The natural surroundings and comfortable accommodations offer ample space and time for reflection, discussion and connection among DIR® colleagues, new and old.

The ICDL (the non-profit Interdisciplinary Council on Developmental and Learning Disorders) sponsors the annual DIR® Summer Institute. The Institute features a nationally and internationally renowned multidisciplinary faculty, offering an intimate, intensive 5-day learning experience.

We invite applications from individuals who work with children and adolescents with communication, relationship, emotional and developmental challenges across disciplines. Eligible candidates must have already completed introductory training in the DIR® and the Floortime™ model, such as attending the ICDL November Conference, or a comprehensive regional training by an ICDL Faculty member, or participated in Dr. Stanley Greenspan’s on-line training course  (www.stanleygreenspan.com).  Participants typically include pediatric professionals, such as developmental pediatricians, psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, marriage and family therapists; speech/language, occupational, physical, music and art therapists; school psychologists, early intervention specialists, special educators, school administrators and para-professionals.

Those who have just begun to study and implement the DIR® model and Floortime™ are invited to apply to our DIR® B Beginning Program. Those with more advanced training and experience, intent on working towards the “DIR® Certificate,” are invited to join our DIR® C Program.  For para-professionals, such as Instructional Aides, the Floortime Player Diploma Program is for you.  Finally, DIR® school administrators are invited to join the DIR® A Program, which you can attend in tandem with the DIR® C certification program, if eligible.

To begin the application process, we encourage you to review this introductory information.  You will find application information at the end…but don’t wait to apply – acceptance can be competitive and spaces are limited!

III.  What do past participants have to say about their experiences?

“The ICDL DIR® Summer Institute has continually provided me with not only the opportunity to advance my personal skill set, but also to connect with like-minded professionals from an array of disciplines in a spirit of collaboration.  As far as training conferences go, none other has been nearly as inspiring - I always find myself equipped with more insight and a replenished spirit that takes me through the year, until the following summer.”  ~ L. DiLuzio, SLP, San Jose, CA
