  • What is the difference between the training for the in home model and the school model?
Our model is comprehensive and you will learn to use DIR principles in school as well as make recommendations for activities to be done at home.  Teachers also orchestrate related services and guide teams to a shared set of goals.  The home component includes guiding and working with parents on FT and other experiences which support development in all areas.  Early interventionists, developmental therapists and teachers do home visits.
  • How does DIR® training differ from Play Project Training?
The Play Project is based on DIR principles and involves 3 hour monthly home visits to help parents learn playtime aka Floortime, with their children.  The children also get special education and related services at schools or early intervention.  This training program usually precedes the Certificate program and gives you advanced standing if you choose to go on.  It is not a program for teachers in schools. The Institute is more intensive and advanced, with live tutoring.
  • I don't currently provide Floortime instruction so I don't have video. What do you suggest? I am not sure that I am comfortable starting therapy without more training so it would be difficult to obtain video. You do not need much video for DIRB but we do want you to have some practice with the DIR concepts and ask you do a short clip playing/working (or having a conversation) with a child which reflects FT principles - following his interests, engaging, opening and closing circles, encouraging thinking, becoming symbolic, etc.  This could be in a classroom setting.  If you try before coming, you will have a better sense of what you understand and what you need to learn.  For teachers video is often new, but it is not a "test" but a way to bring "live discussion" into the small groups we do.
  • Is the Greenspan Basic Online Course the same as the DIR Institute
The Basic Course and the DIR® Institute are not the same. The online course is an introductory course that doesn't’t require any credentials or license, and anyone who works with children with developmental disorders  and parents can participate. The DIR® Institute is a Certification program in the DIR®/Floortime™ model and applicants are required to be credentialed or licensed to be eligible. The Institute is a more intense ongoing training preparing participants to manage comprehensive intervention, provide tutoring and train others. You can use the links below to learn more about the basic course as well as other Faculty offerings.
  • Are there additional conferences offered that will help me prepare?
