Tips to get Collaborate to work on Windows 10?

To open a Collaborate session click your course Blackboard Student Link.  It should open without a problem.  If you are using the integrated Windows Browser and it is not working, we suggest you try Firefox or another different browser.  Please have reported problems with Windows Edge.  When you click your class link, something similar to the following should happen:


3. A pop up window will ask what you want to do with the file. Click Open.

    Note: Make sure that the file is meeting.collab and it is being opened with the Blackboard Collaborate Launcher.




4. A Windows Security Alert pop up may prompt you for permission to run Collaborate depending on your security preferences.

Make sure to check the appropriate boxes and click Allow access.


Troubleshooting

If a pop up window appears saying that a program needs to be chosen to open the Collaborate session, go to the Downloads folder and

ensure that the session file is named meeting.collab and not meeting.jnlp. If it is not, rename it and try to open the file.


If the file still can't find a program to open it, right click on the Windows Start button and go to the Control panel and launch Programs.



In the programs menu click on Make a File Always Open in a Specific Program.


Make sure that the .collab file is associated with the Blackboard Collaborate Launcher and click Change Program.


If you are still having problems, make sure you have Java installed

You will need to install Java, please follow these steps:

Open a web browser (eg Edge, Internet Explorer)

Navigate to java.com

(If you've typed in the address, rather than using the link above, make sure you have gone to the true website for java.com and not clicked an advertising link that's taken you to a malware replica site. You can do this by looking at the URL in the address bar - it should start with java.com. You'll also need to click on "Free download" to get the screen below.)

Click Agree and Start Free Download (this will work even if you are seeing the message regarding Edge)

Once the file has down loaded "Run" it and follow the prompts to install.

If you are installing Java to enable access to a Collaborate session, return to your learning site, and try again to access the Collaborate session.

If none of this works, please contact Blackboard Collaborate support.  When yo contact them, please make sure you tell them that you are using a "guest link" to access your course.
